Introduction

All machines equipped from the factory have the capability for "Anti-Theft Security" via a soft key Personal Identification Number (PIN) or an access code to enable engine starting. The security system will take one of two forms depending on how the machine is configured. Machines configured with the "Standard Display" will have Basic Security. Machines configured with the optional "Advanced Display" will have Advanced Security in addition to other functionality

Servicing Information

This document will provide important set-up and serviceability information on both systems. This document is not intended to explain the operational features and capabilities of the Advanced Display. See "Additional Information".

Definition of Terms

Master PIN – The personal identification number giving full "Read/Edit" capability

Operator PIN – A personal identification number giving limited "Read/Edit" capabilities

Master Profile – The unique machine parameters associated with the Master PIN

Operator Profile – The unique machine parameters associated with a given Operator PIN

Delivery Status

Illustration 1g03432752

All machines regardless of configuration will arrive at the dealer with the Anti-Theft Security System parameter "Not Installed" to allow machine starting for transport purposes. The dealer is responsible for enabling the machine security at the time of sell or delivery if the customer desires this functionality. The system is enabled by changing the status of the machine configuration parameter labeled "MSS EAD Install" to "Installed". This changed status is accomplished through Cat® Electronic Technician (CAT ET), version 2012B or later. There is no charge for the factory passwords required to complete this process.

Default Master Pin

Illustration 2g03432776

Setting the "MSS EAD Install" parameter to "Installed" will create a default Master PIN of "1111". To ensure the integrity of the security system, the Master PIN must be changed by either the dealer who is enabling the security system or the machine owner. These codes will not be known to anyone else so there will be no support for the Forgotten PINs. Refer to "Forgotten Pins".

Basic Security (Standard Display)

Illustration 3g03437079

On machines equipped with the Standard Display, only the single Master PIN will allow access to start the engine. This Master PIN can be changed through the Standard Display to any 4 to 6-digit code. To change the PIN, the system must first be unlocked by entering the current Master PIN at the "codE" prompt in the hour meter window. Then simultaneously hold down the soft keys labeled "1/2" and "5/6" for 3 seconds. For security purposes, the system will prompt "Login" requiring the current Master PIN be entered first. Then the system will prompt "codE", at which point the new Master PIN may be entered. The system will again prompt "code" to validate that the new Master PIN was entered correctly before accepting this change. There are no Operator Profiles with the Basic Security system.

Advanced Security (Advanced Display)

Illustration 4g03450396

On machines equipped with the "Advanced Display", 49 Operator PINs are allowed in addition to the Master PIN for starting the engine. Only the Master PIN will allow creation of additional Operator PINS. The Operator PINS allow an individual operator to store machine preferences to the Operator Profile such as hystat sensitivity, implement sensitivity, gauge layout, ride control activation speed, creep speed and soon. The Master Profile allows full "View/Edit" capability for adding and removing operator profiles, viewing/resetting, machine hours, fuel usage and diagnostics by the operator. Refer to the machine "Operation and Maintenance Manual" for a full explanation of Advanced Display capabilities.

Note: To remove profiles, log in as the Master Profile and navigate to a User Profile for deletion. On the User Profile, make a simple change to the User profile; for example change the name or a setting. After this is done, return back to the Master Profile and delete the User Profile. Do not delete out of Caterpillar ET.

Incorrect Pin System Lockout

For security purposes, if an incorrect PIN is entered three times consecutively, the system will lock for 15 minutes. During this period even a correct PIN will not allow the engine to be started. After the 15 minute lockout period, entry of a correct PIN will unlock the system as usual. Resetting the system during the lockout period will not bypass this security feature. Refer to "System Reset".

Machine ECM Replacement

Illustration 5g03438099

On machines equipped with the Standard Display, replacing the Machine Electronic Control Module (ECM) will simply reset the Master PIN to "1111". As a customer courtesy, the service department can change the Master PIN back to the original value after the service is complete.

On machines equipped with the Advanced Display, replacing the machine ECM will delete all of the Operator PINs and reset the Master PIN to "1111". The Profiles will be retained in the Advanced Display ECM, minus the PIN. As a customer courtesy, the service department can record the Operator PINs prior to the service. The service department can then replace the Operator PINs under the "User Management" menu after the service is complete.

Machine ECM Flash File Replacement

Illustration 6g03438196

Flashing an ECM with service software files, will not delete the stored Operator PINS, Master PINS, or the machine configurations stored under each profile.

Advanced Display Replacement

Illustration 7g03453698

Replacing the Advanced Display will delete all of the Profiles. The PINs however will be retained in the Machine ECM. As a courtesy to the customer, after replacing an Advanced Display, the security system should be reset to deactivate the hidden PINs. Refer to "System Reset". The customer would be responsible for recreating the Profiles under this circumstance.

Advanced Display Flash File Replacement

Illustration 8g03438378

The Advanced Display is reflashed through an onboard USB port located on the back of the display module. If this service is required, the system will react as if the display has been replaced and should be handled as such. Refer to "Advanced Display Replacement".

Standard Display Replacement

Illustration 9g03453957

Replacing the Standard Display module will not impact the current Master PIN.

Forgotten Pins

For the Advanced Display only, if an Operator PIN is forgotten, the PIN may be retrieved using the "View/Edit" capabilities. These capabilities are unlocked by entry of the Master PIN. If the Master PIN is forgotten, the default Master PIN "1111" may be re-established by the dealer. Refer to "System Reset".

System Reset

The default Master PIN "1111" may be re-established by the dealer by changing the "MSS EAD Install" parameter first to "Uninstalled" and then back to "Installed" using Cat ET. Factory passwords will be required for each parameter change at no charge. The Advanced Display will however retain the old Profiles but the old PINs will not start the machine. At this time deleting the old Profile requires the editing of the PIN to any other 4 to 6-digit PIN.

Machine Trade-In

In the event of any form of dealer acquisition such as machine trade-in, the dealer should delete all Profiles within the Advanced Display manually by unlocking the security system under the Master PIN, if known, and remove the Operator Profiles under the "User Management" menu. The Master Profile name should be reset to "Master" if the name has been changed. All PINs should be made nonfunctional by setting the "MSS EAD Install" parameter to "Uninstalled". In the event the Master PIN is not known, perform a system reset and delete the old Profile manually. Refer to "System Reset".

Servicing a Machine Without a Master Pin

Every attempt should be made by the service department to acquire the Master PIN before servicing the machine. If this acquisition is not possible, the security system will have to be uninstalled for service and reinstalled when the service is complete. This action will have the same impact on the security system as replacing the machine ECM. As a courtesy to the customer the appropriate steps should be taken to restore the original PINs. See "Machine ECM Replacement".

Understanding the Lockout Prompt at Key Off

Illustration 10g03438661

While working on a machine with an Anti-Theft System installed, the machine will often be keyed "On" and "Off" to switch between Profiles or to ensure that PIN changes are saved and working. At each key "Off", you will be prompted "Loc" for the Standard Display or "Security System Lock Out?" for the Advanced Display. Ignoring this prompt or selecting the Red "X" the Advanced Display only results in a 15 minute time period during which the machine is not "locked". Press the "Arrow" soft key for the Standard Display or select the Green "Checkmark" for the Advanced Display to shorten the machine lock time to 30 seconds. The key must remain "Off" during either wait period in order to obtain the "Enter" code prompt at the next key "ON".
