Procedure to Install A New Mounting Bracket Group for the Air Compressor on Certain C-18 Commercial Engines{1803} Caterpillar

Introduction

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.

The following Special Instruction provides the procedure for the installation of the mounting bracket group for the air compressor.

(1) 448-4469 Mounting Bracket (2) 437-9936 Support Bracket (3) 437-9937 Spacer (4) 0S-1571 Bolt (5) 170-0610 Stud (6) 198-4766 Hard Washer (7) 287-3049 Stud (8) 3E-4353 Hard Washer (9) 6V-4249 Bolt

1. Remove the current bracket and related hardware from the engine.

2. Install stud (7) with hard washer (6) .

3. Install bracket (1) with spacer (2) onto the engine.

4. Install spacer (8) onto stud (7) .

5. Install bolts (9) through bracket (1) and spacer (8) .

6. Install bolt (3) with washer (4) .

7. Install studs (5) into the engine bosses.

8. Install spacers (3) onto studs (5) .

9. Hand tighten bolts and nuts one through six. Refer to Illustration 1 for the proper torque sequence.

10. Tighten bolt (4) and nuts (5), in the proper sequence, to a torque of 50 ± 5 N·m (37 ± 4 lb ft)

11. Tighten stud (7) and bolts (9), in the proper sequence, to a torque of 60 ± 5 N·m (44 ± 4 lb ft)

12. Repeat Step 10 and Step 11.

13. Paint the new hardware with Caterpillar yellow.
