Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the necessary information to replace 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02 with a new 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read this entire Special Instruction and you understand this information.

Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.

To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.

Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.

Required Tools

The tools that are required for replacing 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02 with a new 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03 listed below:

  • Philips screw driver

  • Torque wrench

Required Parts

The parts that are required for replacing 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02 with a new 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03 listed in Table 1.

Replacement Procedure

Perform the following procedure for replacing 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02 with a new 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03:

Disconnecting and Removing Obsolete Limit Switch As

Perform the following procedure for disconnecting and removing obsolete 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02:

    Obsolete 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02 electrical terminal connections

    (1) Terminal 1 - "Common"

    (2) Terminal 3 - "Normally Closed"

  1. Disconnect ring terminal 1 from the "Common" connection (1), and ring terminal 3 from the "Normally Closed" connection (2). Refer to Illustration 1 for terminal locations.

  1. Remove the obsolete 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02 and discard.

Installing New Limit Switch As

Perform the following procedure for installing 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03:

    (3) Outside nut and lockwasher

    (4) Mounting screw

    (5) Actuator roller

    Note: The 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03 comes assembled with 418-1248 Adapter Plate , and 9B-7233 Lockwashers and 6V-8376 Screws affixed with a thread-lock agent. There is no need to disassemble before installation. Refer to Illustration 2.

  1. Remove the outside nut and lockwasher (3) from the two mounting screws (4) on the 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03 and set aside.

  1. Slide the two mounting screws (4) through the machine bracket.

  1. Insure that the actuator roller (5) is in the same position the 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02 roller was before removal.

  1. Replace one lockwasher and one nut on each mounting screw (4) on the other side of the machine bracket.

    Note: Torque to 0.32 ± 0.02 N·m (0.24 ± 0.015 lb ft)

Connecting New Limit Switch As

Perform the following procedure for connecting 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03:

    (6) Terminal 1 - "Common"

    (7) Terminal 3 - "Normally Closed"

    Note: The electrical terminals on the new 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 03 are arranged differently from the electrical terminals on the 9X-4232 Limit Switch As change level - 02.

  1. Connect ring terminal 1 to the "Common" connection (6), and ring terminal 3 to the "Normally Closed" connection (7). Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Torque terminal connections to 0.43 ± 0.02 N·m (0.32 ± 0.015 lb ft).

  1. Adjust the switch position if necessary. Refer to appropriate test and adjust instructions for the particular machine.
