Introduction

This Special Instruction provides the latest software release information for VIMSpc. Included are release notes from previous releases.

Note: Installing the latest release will include updates from previous releases. There is no need to update to previous releases prior to updating to the latest release.

VIMSpc 2015A

VIMSpc 2015A Update utility will update VIMS master database version to v15.2.0. The update will also provide the following improvements for VIMSpc 2015A production version:

Features and Capabilities

VIMSpc version 2015A contains functionalities of the following existing software products and serves as replacement for them.

  • All previous versions of VIMSpc, including 2013A, 2011A and 2009B.

  • VIMS 3G Connect

  • VIMS Supervisor

  • TPMpc

  • PCSpc

Table 1 compares the capability to connect to various hardware platforms between VIMSpc 2015A, 2013A and 2011A versions.

The following list contains the enhancements and modifications of VIMSpc version 2015A:

  • Java must be installed by user before installing VIMSpc (supports 32-bit Java versions 6, 7, and 8).

  • VIMSpc can no longer be installed on XP systems starting with this version.

  • Includes functionality of VIMSpc 2013A, VIMSpc 2011A, VIMSpc 2009B, VIMS 3G Connect, VIMS Supervisor, PCSpc, and TPMpc.

  • Support for VIMS A5, A4, 522, 523, ABL2M, and 68K hardware platforms.

  • Added support for A5 telematics module and A4 Stand-alone TPM module.

  • Added third party interface (TPI) support.

  • Added support for version 2 of VIMS 3G files.

  • Added support for value point data logger in trend reports.

  • Added support for new productivity files in merge and reports (version 1).

  • Added support for UTC timestamps in VIMS 3G data files.

  • Added support for public J1939 parameters.

  • Improved Ethernet connection.

  • Addressed issues found in 2013A version.

Installation Requirements

PC Admin Rights are required to install VIMSpc and master database updates. Once installed, standard users can run VIMSpc.

All air cards should be removed and VPN turned off prior to installation and when running VIMSpc while connecting to VIMS 3G modules.

Firewall Requirements to Enable VIMSpc and Cat ET to Connect to Machines through Ethernet

The firewall or VPN software should be programmed to have rules or exceptions to allow communication on the following internet ports for a 165.26.78.1-255 and 165.26.79.1-255 IP address space. This allows flashing over Ethernet and servicing certain generations of VIMS applications. To service all generations of VIMS applications, the rules or exceptions must also be applied to IP address 10.0.0.7, 10.0.0.8, 192.30.52.44, 192.30.52.45, 192.168.1.20 and 192.168.1.21.

  • Sending and receiving UDP broadcasts on ports 10002 and 31580

  • Sending and receiving FTP command data on ports 20 and 21

  • Sending an outgoing FTP connection request to an FTP server on ports >1023

  • Accepting an incoming FTP data connection request from an FTP server on ports >1023 (that is, FTP client in active mode)

  • Sending and receiving Telnet data on port 23

  • Sending and receiving HTTP data on port 80

  • Sending and receiving ICMPv4 packets, type 0 (echo-reply) and type 8 (echo-request)

System Requirements

To successfully run VIMSpc, the following computer hardware, communication hardware and cables, and software are needed:

  • IBM ® PC compatible with Pentium 1 GHz processor or greater

  • 2 GB RAM

  • 500 MB of available hard drive space

  • Supported OS: Windows 7 and Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)

  • RS232 port with 16550AF UART (or compatible) OR USB 1.1 or 2.0 port with a USB to Serial Port adapter (P/N: 370-8059 Adapter Kit ) for use with VIMS Download Cable (P/N: 127-9797 Cable As ) for VIMS ABL & 68K hardware

  • Ethernet port for use with the VIMS 3G Download Cable (P/N: 425-6889 Cable As ) for VIMS 3G hardware

  • Adobe PDF reader

  • Java 6, 7, or 8 (32-bit version)

VIMSpc 2013A Update utility will update VIMS master data definition to v15.1.0. The update will also provide the following improvements for VIMSpc 2013A production version:

VIMSpc 2011A Update utility will update VIMS master data definition to version 13.0.0. The update will also provide the following improvements for VIMSpc 2011A production version:

VIMSpc 2011 Software Update

  • Improvement to connection issue when wireless card is turned on.

  • Addressed a downloading issue when VIMS onboard file system is 100 percent full.

  • Addressed an issue with downloading loader payload or cycle timer from trucks.

  • Addressed an issue with snapshot report if equipment number is not the same as serial number.

  • Improvements for Japanese, Chinese, and so on, operating system.

  • Improvements for resetting active dataloggers.

  • Display FMI 0 in Data Logger/Snapshot report instead of displaying value of 1,000,000.

  • Addressed a report issue when users PC is set to use comma as decimal delimiter.

  • Improved an FMI display issue in Windows 7.

Before Installation

  1. Admin rights are required to install the update utility.

  1. VIMSpc 2011A production version needs installed.

  1. If VIMSpc 2009B version is also installed on the PC, VIMSpc 2009B will not be affected by the update utility.

Installation

  1. If VIMSpc is running, exit VIMSpc.

  1. Go to Website: "https://mining.cat.com/cda/alias/vims" for the database Patch.

  1. Run "VIMSpc2011A Master Database v 13.0.0" .

  1. Follow the installation dialogs.

  1. Launch VIMSpc 2011A. VIMSpc will prompt to run or save the updated master database. Refer to Illustration 1.

  1. Click "Run" to update master data definition.

  1. Once the update is completed, open VIMSpc. In the main window, the version numbers shown in Illustration 2 will appear in the window title.

Note: The master data update will be applied to the current user database only. When a different user database with older master definition is selected, VIMSpc 2011A will prompt to update master data definition.

Release 11.0.5

VIMSpc 2011A Update utility will update VIMS master data definition to version 11.0.5. The update will also provide the following improvements for VIMSpc 2011A production version:

  • Added support for 777F parameter and event

  • Added support for 793D Production Data event (Engine Speed).

  • Added support for 793D Mule parameters, Events, and Diagnostics.

  • Added support for third-party interfaces.

  • Improved J1939 parameter merge.

  • Support build-in VIMS onboard configuration. No need for dummy .cfg for Wheel Loader applications.

  • Improved an issue with Datalogger downloads that are not filtered by machines selected.

  • A scroll bar is added in the Download window to show all data types available.

  • Improved an issue when migrating data from previous versions of VIMSpc.

  • Improved the speed of switching between tabs in Report window.
