Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
In some cases, the inside diameter of the 253-9802 Exciter Rotor is larger than the specification. This results in an insufficient interference fit, and eventual loosening on the rotor shaft on certain 3512 and C32 Generator Sets using SR5 1400 frame generators. If the 253-9802 Exciter Rotor loosens, this could result in damage to the 253-9802 Exciter Rotor rotor, exciter key, rotor shaft keyway, and rotor shaft outside outer diameter. In some cases, loosening of the 253-9802 Exciter Rotor can result in damage to other generator components.
Solution
If the exciter rotor is suspected to be loose, have your Technical Communicator contact the Dealer Solutions Network (DSN) for further instructions.
The symptoms that are listed below may be an indication of a loose exciter rotor:
- Damaged main rotor lead cables and/or lugs
- Excessive vibration
- Abnormal noise
