MOV / Surge Protector Removal Procedure for Uninterruptible Power Supply{4466}

Introduction

This Special Instruction contains MOV / surge protector removal procedure for uninterruptible power supply.

Rework Procedure

Isolate MMU electrically or switch off power from the entire system before replacement of 261-1004 Varistor Assembly (1) and then follow the below steps:

Note: Begin work only after verifying MMU is de-energized.

  1. Remove the six 9/16" nuts (2) and six washers (3) to remove the fuses located in front of the 261-1004 Varistor Assembly (1). Refer to Illustration 1 and Illustration 2.

  1. Remove 7/16" nut (4) and bolt (5) and associated washers (6) connecting the DC cables to the MOV blocks. Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Remove two Phillips head screws (7) from both 261-1004 Varistor Assembly (1) and retain the screws. This will allow the 261-1004 Varistor Assembly (1) to be removed. Refer to Illustration 3.

  1. Each new 416-8824 Varistor Assembly contains one replacement block (8), two 1.25" studs (9), two 7/16" nuts (10). Refer to Illustration 4.

  1. Install 1/4" stud (11) into MOV replacement block (8) and thread the two 7/16" nuts (10) onto the 1/4" stud (11). Refer to Illustration 5.

  1. Tighten both 7/16" nuts (10) together on stud (11) which creates a point to tighten the stud (11) into the replacement block (8). Refer to Illustration 5.

  1. Repeat the Step 5 - Step 6 for the installation of second stud.

  1. Use the same Phillips head screws (7) used to secure the 416-8824 Varistor Assembly to the side panel to secure the replacement blocks (8) .

  1. Using the pre-existing MOV hardware, use one flat washer and one lock washer with supplied 7/16" nut and connect cables (12) to the corresponding stud locations on the new replacement blocks.

  1. Repeat Step 9 for connecting the remaining cables.

  1. Return armature fuses to original locations and connect corresponding armature cables.

  1. Return MMU to the original state.
