Introduction
This guide is used as an example for installing VIMSpc 2011A and VIMSpc 2013A. This example is using VIMSpc 2013A on a Windows 7 (64-bit) PC. This guide can be used for installing on other Windows-based operating systems.
Important Safety Information
Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you have read this Special Instruction and you understand this information. Use only proper tools and observe all precautions that pertain to the use of those tools. Failure to follow these procedures can result in personal injury. The following procedures should also be observed.
Work safely. Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs.
A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools in order to perform these functions properly.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this instruction and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons. Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard.
Therefore, the warnings in this publication and the warnings that are on the product are not all inclusive. Ensure that any tool, procedure, work method, or operating technique you use that is not recommended by Caterpillar is safe.
Ensure that the product will not be damaged or the product will not be made unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance, or repair procedures used.
Note: Caterpillar recommends that each customer conducts a risk assessment for remote control operation and establish layers of protection in and around the area of the remote controlled machine and establish safe job site procedures. Examples may include personnel training, warning signs, and barricades.
Note: Prior to operation of the machine read the Operation and Maintenance Manual.
NOTICE |
---|
Do not disassemble the remote control console or remote control receiver. Any attempt to disassemble the remote control console or remote control receiver will void the warranty of the component. |
Do not operate or work on this machine unless you have read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance Manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Contact any Caterpillar dealer for replacement manuals. Proper care is your responsibility. |
Requirements
The following items are necessary to perform the VIMSpc software installation:
- VIMSpc 2013A installation application
ReferenceSpecial Instruction, REHS7337, "VIMSpc Update Release Information"
Installation Requirements
PC Admin Rights are required to install VIMSpc and master database updates. Once installed, standard users can run VIMSpc.
All air cards should be removed and VPN turned OFF prior to installation and when running VIMSpc while connecting to VIMS3G modules.
Firewall Requirements to Enable VIMSpc and Cat ET to Connect to Machines through Ethernet
The firewall or VPN software should be programmed to have rules or exceptions to allow communication on the following internet ports for a 165.26.78.0/23 IP address space. This allows flashing over Ethernet and servicing certain generations of VIMS applications. To service all generations of VIMS applications, the rules or exceptions must also be applied to IP address 10.0.0.7, 10.0.0.8, 192.30.52.44, 192.30.52.45, 192.168.1.20, and 192.168.1.21.

- Plugging in and unplugging the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port of PC will toggle between "connected", "limited connectivity", "unidentified network" or "Network Cable unplugged" status.
- Plug in and unplug the Ethernet cable enough times to identify the network connection with toggle status.
- Record the LAN that changes. When installing VIMSpc, select the appropriate LAN to ensure whether proper communication is established between VIMS and VIMSpc. If inappropriate LAN is selected during installation, connectivity issues may prompt. Refer to Illustration 18.
