Procedure to Rework Bucket Pin Bores on Certain 980H and 980K Wheel Loaders{6101, 6102, 6108}

Wheel Loader:: 980H (S/N: A8J1-UP; JMS1-UP; KZL1-UP; MHG1-UP); 980K (S/N: GTZ1-UP; W7K1-UP)
Work Tool:: Bucket (S/N: Z1A1-UP; 7NW1-UP)

Introduction

The "B" and "C" pin bores on certain (S/N: Z1A) bucket assemblies may have been machined out of tolerance for the following buckets:

330-4357 General Purpose Bucket As
330-4358 General Purpose Bucket As
349-8661 General Purpose Bucket As
363-9843 Rock Bucket As

While no failures have been reported, this condition may lead to operator noise complaints (rattling) or premature pin & bore wear.

Rework bucket pins if the bores are outside the following specifications:

"B" pin bores: 89.05 ± 0.15 mm (3.5059 ± 0.0059 inch) at 0 degrees and 90 degrees
"C" pin bores: 76.35 ± 0.15 mm (3.0059 ± 0.0059 inch) at 0 degrees and 90 degrees

Bucket serial numbers that may potentially be affected by out of round "B" or "C" pin bores. These buckets have the standard size 185-7221 Bearing Sleeve in the "B" pin bores and no bearing sleeves in the "C" pin bores. Multiple Bucket Part Numbers are built using the (S/N: Z1A) and (S/N: 7NW). Only 330-4358 General Purpose Bucket As , 363-9843 Rock Bucket As , 330-4357 General Purpose Bucket As , and 349-8661 General Purpose Bucket As are affected by this issue.

Required Parts

Table 2 lists the part numbers for the new bearing sleeves and the corresponding dimensions.

Refer to Illustration 1 for the outer diameter dimension of 185-7221 Bearing Sleeve and Illustration 2 for the outer diameter dimension of 391-2254 Bearing Sleeve .

Document the size of each of the following bores: upper pin (C), upper pin (D) and lower pin (E) .

Remove the bearing sleeves from the four locations for lower pin (E) .

Verify that dimensions (F) and (G) are correct before boring the following: upper pin (C), upper pin (D) and lower pin (E). Refer to View A-A of Illustration 3 for the machining dimensions of (F) and (G) .

Over bore upper pin bores (C) and (D) to the new diameter of 101.78 ± 0.05 mm (4.007 ± 0.002 inch).

Over bore lower pin bore (E) locations to the new diameter of 121.93 ± 0.05 mm (4.800 ± 0.002 inch).

Press the bearing sleeves into the bore so that the bearing sleeves are flush with the inside face of the hinge plates.
1. Insert 391-2254 Bearing Sleeve (B Pin) (1) into lower pin (E) .
1. Insert 391-2255 Bearing Sleeve (Outer C pin) (2) into upper pin (C) .
1. Insert 391-2256 Bearing Sleeve (Inner C pin) (3) into upper pin (D) .
1. Verify that the bearing sleeves do not protrude beyond the inside face of the hinge plates.

Verify that the bores with the new bearing sleeves are within the previously mentioned specifications:
- "B" pin bores: 89.05 ± 0.15 mm (3.5059 ± 0.0059 inch) at 0 degrees and 90 degrees
- "C" pin bores: 76.35 ± 0.15 mm (3.0059 ± 0.0059 inch) at 0 degrees and 90 degrees
