Description of Change: Over the years Caterpillar has improved wire Identification on wire harnesses with improved ink jet marking (that is, circuit ID) on the wires. Until now the older Legacy Harnesses (available through the parts system) had not incorporated those changes.
Adaptable To: The legacy wire harnesses that previously used striped wire, may now be replaced with solid color wire with ink jet markings to indicate the solid-stripe color combination. The solid color used shall be the base color of the striped part number. If available, the circuit number shall be stamped on the wire insulation followed by the wire color stripe combination. For example, a black wire with a red stripe with circuit ID 751-AT17 shall be changed to a black wire with marking 751-AT17 BK-RD. If no circuit ID is available, then the wire would be marked with only the color combination (that is, BK-RD). Refer to the Illustration 1. This will affect all striped wires except the UL requirement for Green/Yellow (GN/YL) striped wire (6V-8238 Electrical Wire, 6V-8239 Electrical Wire, 6V-8240 Electrical Wire, 6V-8241 Electrical Wire, 6V-8242 Electrical Wire, 203-6270 Wire, 203-6276 Wire, 203-6282 Wire, 205-5396 Wire, 206-3987 Wire, and 212-3314 Wire ).
