Operator Mode

Usage:

272D GSL
The Operator Mode allows the operator to view the status and the troubleshooting of various systems. The Operator Mode is one of two modes that are displayed on the Digital Data Display window (51) that is located on the right side Cab Display (50).

Note: The right side display (50) is referred to as the Cab Display in the Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) service tool. The right side Cab Display is optional.

Navigating the Operator Modes

The digital display window (51) shows the following basic information about the machine:

  • Engine Speed

  • System Voltage

  • Job Clock

  • Work tool Control

  • Creeper Control

The digital display window is used in order to set the work tool control. The digital display window is used to set the Creeper Control.

The modes that are available are the following:

Operator Mode 1 - Display Screen

Operator Mode 2 - Work Tool Control Screen

Operator Mode 3 - Drive Control Screen

Operator Mode 4 - Creep Control Screen

Perform the following in order to toggle between the modes:

  1. Press the Function Select button (54) .

Perform the following in order to toggle between screens and setting in a mode:

  1. Press the Scroll Up button (52) or press the Scroll Down button (53) .

Operator Mode 1 - Display Screen

Operator Mode 1 - Display Screen has three individual screens. See Table 1.

The default screen of Operator Mode 1 - Display Screen is the Digital Tachometer screen.

Perform the following in order to change to a different Display Screen setting:

  1. Press the Scroll Up button (52) or press the Scroll Down button (53) .

Details of the Digital Tachometer screen follow:

  • Engine speed is displayed in revolutions per minute (RPM).

  • Engine speed is the default display.

  • The minimum number that can be displayed is 0.

  • The maximum number that can be displayed is 9999.

System Voltage

The system voltage is the battery voltage that is currently detected by the machine system. The system voltage is displayed on the Digital Data display of the Instrument Cluster in units of voltage. System voltage is not the default display. The System Voltage screen is entered by scrolling through the display. The system voltage is displayed as a decimal number. The minimum number that can be displayed is 0.0. The maximum that can be displayed is 99.9.

Job Clock

The Job Clock displays the time of machine operation on a job. The Job Clock display is in hours. The Job Clock is not the default display. The Job Clock is accessible by scrolling through the display. The Job Clock display is a number with a maximum of four digits. The minimum number that can be displayed is 0.0 hours. The maximum number that can be displayed is 999.9. The Job Clock display changes in real time. When the data is not known, the display will be filled with dashes "----". The operator can reset the Job Clock at any time. Press and hold both the Scroll Down button (53) and the Scroll Up button (52) for 3 seconds while the Job Clock is displayed. That action resets the Job Clock to zero. At that time, the display will also be updated to 000.0 hours, immediately.

Operator Mode 2 - Work Tool Control

The Operator Mode 2 - Work Tool Control screen is used to display the current setting for the machine lift and tilt response functions. The Operator Mode 2 - Work Tool Control screen is used to change the implement settings.

Perform the following in order to enter the Operator Mode 2 - Work Tool Control:

  1. In Operator Mode 1, push the Function Selector button (54) 1 time.

Perform the following in order to change to a different Work Tool Control setting:

  1. Press the Scroll Up button (52) or press the Scroll Down button (53) .

Note: The Work Tool Control setting will return to Medium Control - 2 Bars when the engine is turned to the OFF position.

Operator Mode 2 - Work Tool Control has three individual screens. See Table 2.

Operator Mode 3 - Drive Control

In Operator Mode 1, push the "Function Selector" button 2 times. The "Drive Mode Control" screen is used in order to display the current setting of the "Drive Mode Control" functions. Use the "Scroll Up" button and the "Scroll Down" button in order to change to a different setting.

The "Drive Mode Control" has three settings:

  • Standard Mode 1 Bar

  • Intermediate Mode 2 Bars

  • Maximum Mode 3 Bars

Note: The "Drive Mode Control" setting will not change when the ignition switch is turned off.

Note: The machine will start, stop, and steer more aggressively with each progressive drive control mode. Test drive the machine in an open area in order to test the operating characteristics of the machine.

Operator Mode 4 - Creep Control

The Operator Mode 4 - Creep Control screen is used in order to display the current setting for the creeper control.

Perform the following in order to enter Operator Mode 3 - Creeper Control:

  1. In Operator Mode 1, push the Function Selector button (54) 2 times.

Perform the following in order to change to a different Creep Control setting:

  1. Press the Scroll Up button (52) or press the Scroll Down button (53) .

Note: The Creep Control setting will not change when the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.

Operator Mode 4 - Creep Control has ten individual screens. The ten screens are Creep Control screens. See Table 3.
