NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Make measurement of lining wear at least once per year, in particular, however, in case of modified braking behavior, like:

  • Brake noises

  • Reduced braking power

  • Changed deceleration

  • Changed brake oil level

  • Changed braking pressure

Measure the wear on both output sides.

  1. Remove screw plug, actuate brake, and determine Dimension (A). Use a feeler gauge and refer to Figure 1 and 2.

Dimension (A) corresponds with thickness of inner clutch disc on the piston side.

Note: If Dimension (A) is less than 4 mm (0.16 inch), the lined discs on both output sides must be replaced.

  2. Install the level plug with a new O-ring. Torque the plug to 50 N·m (36.88 lb ft).
