Water Pump (Engine) - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

  1. Remove bolts (1) and reposition hydraulic oil cooler (2) .

  1. Disconnect hose (3) .

  1. Remove bolts (7) from water pump (6) .

  1. Remove front cover (9). Remove gasket (8) from front cover (9) .

  1. Tap water pump (6) with a soft hammer in order to loosen water pump (6). Remove water pump (6) from front housing (4) .

  1. Remove gasket (5) from water pump (6) .

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

  1. Position gasket (5) to water pump (6) .

  1. Position gasket (8) to front cover (9) .

  1. Position water pump (6) and front cover (9) to front housing (4). Install bolts (7) .

  1. Connect hose (3) .

  1. Position hydraulic oil cooler (2) and install bolts (1) .

  1. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
