Think Safety |
Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance, and repair are caused by failure to observe basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards. This person should also have the necessary training, skills, and tools to perform these functions properly.
Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance, or repair of this product can be dangerous and could result in injury or death.
Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance, or repair on this product without reading and understanding the operation, lubrication, maintenance, and repair information.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this manual and on the product. If these hazard warnings are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons.
The hazards are identified by the Safety Alert Symbol and followed by a Signal Word such as "DANGER", "WARNING", or "CAUTION". The Safety Alert "WARNING" label is shown below.
A non-exhaustive list of operations that may cause product damage are identified by "NOTICE" labels on the product and in this publication.
Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard. The warnings in this publication and on the product are, therefore, not all inclusive. If a tool, procedure, work method, or operating technique not recommended by Caterpillar is used, the operator must be sure that the procedures are safe. The operator must also be sure that the product will not be damaged or made unsafe by any unspecified procedures.
The information, specifications, and illustrations in this publication are based on information that was available at the time that the publication was written. The specifications, torques, pressures, measurements, adjustments, illustrations, and other items can change at any time. These changes can affect the service that is given to the product. Obtain the complete and most current information before you start any job.
When replacement parts are required for this product, Caterpillar recommends using Caterpillar replacement parts. Or use parts with equivalent specifications including, but not limited to, physical dimensions, type, strength, and material.

Introduction
The 142-1664 Adjustable Lifting Bracket Group is a "C"-style lifting device. The lifting bracket is used to remove and install heavy parts and assemblies for a wide variety of applications.
The following features provide maximum versatility:
- Internal threaded rods adjust extension arms to achieve center of gravity.
- Asymmetrical, adjustable lifting bracket can be oriented with either arm in the upright position.
- Additional adapters increase versatility and eliminate the need for multiple lifting brackets.
- 151-2816 Handling Plate (6), 2H-3744 Grade 8 Bolts (2 qty) (7), and 5P-8250 Washers (2 qty) (8) are required to attach the lifting shackle to extension arm (2) .

NOTICE |
---|
Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings below could result in injury or death. Verify that the load to be lifted does not exceed the specified capacity. Measure the length of extension at A and B, and match with the chart. Always use the lower of the two capacities. Always adjust the arms to the shortest usable length. Refer to the service manual for specific applications. Do not adjust under load. Inspect the condition of the lifting bracket group prior to use. Lubricate as necessary. |
Optional Adapters
Optional adapters can be used to make this tooling more versatile.
Hardware used to attach adapter plates and bracket assemblies must meet or exceed 10.9 Metric or Grade 8 (English) specifications. Always use hardened flat washers, and tighten all hardware to the correct torque value for the fastener size.
