A new process is now available that Cat Dealers can use to register all types of retrofits. The new process uses the existing SIMSi and AIMS systems to update the product configuration for all Cat Dealers to view.
What is a Retrofit
A machine retrofit is the adaptation of newer technology or content to older models of equipment. After a prime-mover is retrofitted, the mover will then contain parts that are not in the Parts Manual for that machine. Examples of retrofit products include:
- Emissions repower engines
- Engine upgrades
- Aftertreatment, such as diesel particulate filters (DPF) and diesel oxidation catalysts
- Efficiency or performance enhancements, such as adding an engine compression brake to an Off-Highway Truck or a smooth belly guard to a landfill compactor
- Ingress or egress enhancements, such as replacing a ladder with a diagonal stairwell on an Off-Highway Truck
Dealer & Customer Benefits
Registering retrofits will update the product configuration database. After a dealer registers a machine retrofit, the dealer will see the correct, as-maintained, configuration in the SIMSi "Product Configuration" screen. Registering a machine retrofit will help to improve service performance.
Note: TMI will also be updated for engine replacements.
To the extent that Cat Dealers have registered the retrofit product installations, Caterpillar will be able to communicate important product updates to Cat Dealers and customers.
