A New Pressure Regulating Valve Is Used for Air Starting on some 3500B Marine Engines {108A, 1462}

Description of Change: The new pressure regulator is more durable. The new pressure regulator also improves starting by providing better air flow.

Adaptable To: The new 330-1843 Pressure Regulator replaces the 1L-2073 Pressure Reducing Valve in the engines that are listed above.

The new pressure regulator is adaptable back to first production of the engines that are listed above. However, two 5B-7660 Reducer Bushings are required for installation of the pressure regulator. Refer to Illustration 1.

(4) 3L-8993 Fitting

The original elbow (1) and fitting (4) can be reused with the new pressure regulator. Apply 154-9731 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of the elbow and the fitting.

The pressure regulator and the air starting motor have the same requirements for cleanliness of the air supply. Debris in the pressurized air supply will damage the pressure regulator and the air starting motor. Installation of a 300 mesh strainer upstream of the pressure regulator is recommended.
