New Software is Now Used on Current Production C9, C11, C13, C15, C18, and Certain C27 Industrial Engines {1901, 1920}

Usage:

C11 GLS
Industrial Engine:
C9 (S/N: JSC1-UP)
C11 (S/N: HRA1-UP; GLS1-UP)
C13 (S/N: RRA1-UP; LGK1-UP)
C15 (S/N: JRE1-UP; MCW1-UP)
C18 (S/N: WJH1-UP; WRH1-UP)
C27 (S/N: TWM1-UP)

A new version of software has been developed for the current production engines listed above enabling a clean integration with the Caterpillar CX Transmission.

The new version of engine software includes the following features:

  1. An advertised engine torque curve feature that ensures the engine and transmission are properly sized for one another. Should a package be built with an undersized transmission, the engine will be de-rated, and show an "Event 1132 Inconsistent Configuration Detected Fault" on the transmission in Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET).

Note: This feature is only functional on Cat Engine with Cat CX Transmission packages.

  1. A low range transmission protection feature that protects the transmission against excessive torque. The engine will typically receive a torque limit value through the data link from the transmission. If this data link is lost, the engine will de-rate and indicate a "296-09 diagnostic code" and a check engine lamp will flash a "58" code.

Note: This feature is only functional on Cat Engine with Cat CX Transmission packages.

  1. An improvement in the Governor Mode Selection. In the past the "Configuration Screen" in Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) must be used to switch between "Full Range" and "Min/Max Governors". The new software retains this functionality while adding the ability to switch with an external switch on the equipment. By utilizing a simple switch, the full range governor can be obtained when "J1-22" is grounded and min/max governor when the switch is open.

  1. Refine engine torque estimator maps, improving shift quality on transmissions utilizing this information in the shifting strategy.

Service Implications:

  1. For engines built prior to the serial number break which do not drive a CX Transmission, the PSO (Parts Service Only) file should be used. This file is a duplicate of the file from today and carries the same part number.

  1. For engines built prior to the serial number break but does drive a CX Transmission, the new production software file should be used. Before the software can be installed, the DSN will need to be contacted to provide passwords and confirm the application is conducive.

Note: A standard fee will be charged at this time.

  1. Ensure the latest version of Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) is used for any service or configuration with the new flash files.

Refer to Table 1 information on the sales models, part numbers, interlocks, and effective serial numbers.
