Startup Procedure
Personal injury or death may occur if the internal components of the power module are not assembled correctly. Damage to the power module and the components may occur if the internal components of the power module are not assembled correctly. Components that are improperly located within the power module could damage the power module. Verify the integrity of the internal components of the power module. Ensure that a safety check is performed before the power module is energized. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause personal injury or death. |
High voltage may be present. The power source must be disconnected before working on the equipment. Failure to disconnect the power source could result in injury or death. Verify that the equipment is not energized before performing any maintenance. This work must be performed by trained personnel with appropriate personal protection equipment, correct tools, and procedures. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause personal injury or death. |
Failure to connect the unit to a suitable earth ground may result in electrical shock and cause injury or death. |
Short circuits can cause severe personal injury and damage to equipment. Short circuits may be the result of damage to the equipment or improper installation procedures. Examine the equipment for damage only when the equipment is de-energized. Bodily contact with electrical potential will cause personal injury or death. |
Settings on the following devices are the responsibility of the site operator:
- Generator circuit breaker
- Utility protective relay
Perform the following steps for initial startup.
- Inspect the power module for excessive debris. Remove excessive debris if present.
- Ensure that all sheet metal panels are in place. Ensure that all access doors are closed.
- Turn on DC power. Verify that electronic devices boot up correctly.
- Verify that the value for engine coolant temperature is present on the EMCP display. The "Advanced Diesel Engine Management" ADEM system is working if the value for engine coolant temperature is displayed.
- Navigate to the "Event" log. Verify the presence of "External I/O #1" and digital automatic voltage regulator (AVR) information on the EMCP display. The decrete input/output (DIO) and the Cat Digital Voltage Regulator (Cat DVR) are working if the information is present.
- Verify that the generator paralleling control (GPC) and utility multifunction relay (UMR) are working if the paralleling control switch is in the ON position.
- Check the batteries for proper voltage level.
- Check for proper engine fluid levels. Engine fluid levels include oil, coolant and fuel.
- Verify that the correct AC control voltage is present for shore power. Verify each operation as each of the AC circuit breakers are closed.
