The machines that are listed above have updated requirements for the lubrication viscosities for the tandem oil. The lower viscosities will extend the service life of the brakes by preventing overheating and other failures.

Refer to Table 1. The temperature range in which the oil of a given viscosity is suitable for use in the tandem drive is being revised upward. The information in Table 1 for the lubrication of the tandem drive and wheel spindle bearings will be added to publications that affect each machine. The information will be added to the Operation and Maintenance Manuals for the above listed machines and to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU6250, "Caterpillar Machine Fluids Recommendations", "Motor Graders". Use the lowest viscosity that is recommended in the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your machine at the current ambient temperature. Add the appropriate amount of 1U-9891 Hydraulic Oil Additive to the tandem oil.
Note: 1U-9891 Hydraulic Oil Additive is not to be used in 24M Motor Graders.
