There have been a number of isolated instances of issues with the 216-9786 Fuel Injector As .
The issues with the fuel injection nozzles are the following:
- Fuel leaking from the fuel injection nozzles
- Performance issues with the fuel injection nozzles
In order to prevent the issues occurring, ensure that the installation recommendations are followed.
- Ensure that the fuel injection nozzle is correctly located in the cylinder head. The fuel injection nozzle should be seated and nut thread started, prior to tightening.
- Ensure that the existing combustion washer is removed before the fuel injection nozzle is assembled.
- Ensure that a new combustion washer is installed to the fuel injection nozzle before assembly into the cylinder head.
- Use a suitably sized socket to tighten the fuel injection nozzle nut. Ensure that no damage to the nut occurs during the tightening process.
- Care should be taken to avoid damage to the high-pressure pipe during the assembly process.
- Guarantee cleanliness by leaving caps in place and by using clean tools.
For the correct procedure to remove the fuel injection nozzles, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Nozzles - Remove". For the correct procedure to install the fuel injection nozzles, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fuel Injection Nozzles - Install".
Ensure that the storage recommendations are followed.
- Store new nozzle holder assemblies in the as delivered condition, in original packaging.
- Storage time maximum of 4 years, thereafter all equipment should be checked by a Bosch dealer.
- Storage temperature should be between −30° to 60°C (−22° to 140°F).
- Atmospheric humidity should be between 0 to 80%.
- Protect new nozzle holder assemblies from rain, snow, and sunlight.
Ensure that the fuel recommendations are followed.
- Use diesel fuel in accordance with "EN 590".
- Ensure that fuel storage facilities are in accordance with "EN 590".
- Ensure that fuel filters are changed in line with the maintenance interval schedule. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule".
- Water separators are to be used where there exists a high risk of water contamination of storage tanks, for example, from condensation.
