Introduction

Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publication until you understand the information that is contained in this document.

Safety

------ WARNING! ------

Contact with high-pressure fuel may cause personal injury or death. Wait 60 seconds after the engine has stopped to allow the fuel pressure to purge before any service is performed on the fuel lines.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Cleanliness

NOTICE

Cleanliness is an important factor. Thoroughly clean the exterior of the engine before the removal procedure.

NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Part Number  Description
379-1550  Fuel Priming Pump As for 12 VDC applications
379-1545  Fuel Priming Pump As for 24 VDC applications

Procedure

Use the following procedure to install the fuel priming pump assemblies listed above for the particular applications.

  10. Ensure that the two 173-1016 Backup Rings (10) that are provided in the kit are also removed. Also, ensure that the 188-7536 Seal (11) and the 188-7541 Seal (12) are removed.

    (13) Proper orientation of the pump

  11. Use 361-3641 Pump Installer that is provided in the kit to press in the new pump and seals. Lubricate the seals with 8T-2998 Lubricant to assist with the installation.

Note: The outlet of the pump should be at the top center position.

  12. Reinstall the wires on the terminal studs in the same polarity. Refer to Step 7. Install new 6D-5801 Locknuts (5). Torque locknuts to 1.3 N·m (1 lb ft). Ensure that the wire terminals do not touch each other after the locknuts have been tightened.

Note: Use caution when applying torque to the new 6D-5801 Locknuts (5). The stud is made of brass and will break if the torque value is exceeded. An over torque will take place if the nut is seated and rotated beyond 1/8 turn.

  13. Reinstall the EMI filter, if equipped.

  14. Install a new 205-9169 Seal on the manifold (4). Reinstall the manifold.

    Illustration 15g02139311

  15. Reinstall the three 6V-8359 Bolts (3). Torque the bolts to 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).

    Illustration 16g02138801

  16. Replace the 341-3150 Filter Connector As (13). Tighten the fittings (10) and (11) to a torque of 17 ± 1 N·m (150 ± 9 lb in).

    Illustration 17g02139316

  17. Reconnect the solenoid harness (2) and the fuel line (1) to the ARD at both ends.

  18. After reassembly, prime the engine by turning on the key or pressing the manual switch. The manual switch, if available, is located on the primary fuel filter base. Visually check for leaks around the pump and around the connections on the ARD manifold. If leaks are observed, resolve the leak issue before proceeding further.
