Caterpillar 电子技师（ET）可用来查看某些会影响发动机运转的参数。 Cat ET 也可用来更改某些参数。 某些参数不能修改，并且某些应用场合不允许更改可编程监控系统。 这些参数存储在电子控制模块（ECM）中。 这些参数中的一些参数受密码保护，以防擅自更改。 可以被更改的参数有一个更改记录数。 更改记录数显示某一参数是否被改动过。
参数分为两种不同的类型：
用户指定参数 - 修改用户指定参数可能需要用户密码。
系统配置参数 - 系统配置参数影响发动机的排放或发动机的功率。 修改系统配置参数的数值可能需要出厂密码。

- 连接到 Cat ET。
- 选择 Service（维修）栏。
- 通过选择 Configuration（配置）栏查看配置参数。
如果更换 ECM，必须从旧 ECM 中复制对应参数。 利用 Cat ET 的"复制配置"功能复制参数。 "Copy Configuration（复制配置）"栏位于 "Configuration（配置）"栏下方。 另外，也可以将设定值记到纸上，然后再将其编程设定到新模块的配置屏幕上。

如果有可编程参数未编程设定，ECM 将产生 268-2 或 630-2 诊断代码。 将在此代码下方列出未编程的可编程参数。 图 2 显示了 268-2 代码下未编程设定的参数。 未编程的参数将设为默认值。 某些发动机性能和发动机监控功能会爱到影响。
