Removal Procedure

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |

Keep all parts clean from contaminants. Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life. |
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
- Loosen clamp assemblies (5) and disconnect both hose assemblies.

Note: Discard clamp assemblies (1) after use.
- Disconnect hose assembly (3) and loosen clamp assembly (1) .
- Remove bolts (2) and remove precooler (4) .
- Discard clamp assembly (1) .
- Loosen clamp assembly (7) and remove elbow (6) from precooler (4) . Discard clamp assembly (7) .

- Remove bolts (9) . Remove flange assembly (8) and remove the O-ring seal. Repeat this step for the other flange assembly.
- Loosen clamp assembly (10) and remove elbow assembly (11) .

- Discard clamp assembly (10) after use.
- Loosen clamp assemblies (12) . Remove elbow (12) from bellows (13) . Remove elbow (14) from bellows (13) .

Note: Discard bellows (13) and clamp assemblies (12) after the clamp assemblies have been loosened.
- Discard bellows (13) and clamp assemblies (12) .
- Remove bolts (16) and (17) . Remove bracket (15) .

Installation Procedure
- Install the precooler in the reverse order.
- Tighten new clamp assemblies (10) , (12) , (7) and (1) to a torque of 8.5 ± 2 N·m (75 ± 18 lb in).
- Tighten clamp assemblies (3) and (5) to a torque of 7.3 ± 0.5 N·m (65 ± 4 lb in).
Note: Check the O-ring seals, the gaskets, and the seals for wear or for damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
