A change has been made to Service Magazine, SEPD1137, 14, June 2010, Output Transfer Case and Bearings Have Been Improved. The content, prefix, and part number information have changed.

Description Of Change: Improved output transfer case and bearings are now used on the machines listed above. The improved output transfer case is redesigned to accommodate the new bearing design and the idler gear is changed with new straight roller bearings. The improved design increases the components service life.

Adaptable To: The following parts are adaptable to the products within the listed serial numbers, and are effective with all products after the listed serial numbers.

To accommodate the new bearing design using the parts mentioned in Table 1, the following items must be updated:

  • Case Assembly

  • Bearing Cage

  • Oil Lines

  • Idler Gear

  • Fasteners

  • Fixed Gap Speed Sensors Implemented.

Note: The former 345-2394 Transfer Case As is replaced with 419-8133 Transfer Case As. The 419-8133 Transfer Case As has changes for improved manufacturing. Either 345-2394 Transfer Case As or 419-8133 Transfer Case As may be used for this update.

Note: 20R-0128 Transfer Case As is available as the Reman service replacement for both 345-2394 Transfer Case As and 419-8133 Transfer Case As. One 134-9817 Transfer Case As is required as a core return when purchasing a 20R-0128 Transfer Case As.

Note: The bearing design that is used on the idler gear no longer requires end play adjustment. The design still requires end play to be checked. Ensure that no preload is present. The former 230-6346 Transmission Ar will be replaced by 347-0183 Transmission Ar. The 347-0183 Transmission Ar will contain 345-2392 Output Transfer Gear Gp which uses the straight roller bearings. The Specification manual will contain all necessary information regarding end play measurements. Refer to the Disassembly and Assembly manuals for instructions on assembling the new design of the output transfer case.
