Damper - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the bottom guards.

  1. Remove bolts (1) and panels (2).

  2. Loosen bolts (3).

  3. Remove bolts (4) and bracket (5).

  4. Remove bolts (6) and guard (7).

  5. Install Tooling (A) into four locations.

  6. Remove bolts (8) and spacer (9).

  7. Slide damper (10) onto Tooling (A).

    Note: If necessary, install four M24 nuts onto Tooling (A) to prevent the damper from falling.

  8. Attach a suitable lifting device to damper (10). The weight of damper (10) is approximately 188 kg (415 lb). Remove the M24 nuts.

  9. Remove damper (10).

    NOTICE

    Seal damage can occur. Use caution when aligning the damper with the end of the crankshaft.


  1. Install Tooling (A). Ensure that the dowel hole on the crankshaft will align with dowel (10A) on damper (10). Use a suitable lifting device to position vibration damper (10) onto Tooling (A). The weight of vibration damper (10) is approximately The weight of damper (10) is approximately 188 kg (415 lb).

    Note: If necessary, install four M24 nuts onto Tooling (A) to prevent the damper from falling.

  2. Install spacer (9).

  3. Lubricate the threads and under the bolt head of bolts (8) with a Molysulfide based lubricant. Install bolts (8) and remove Tooling (A).

  4. Bolt Tightening Procedure

      Bolt Tightening Sequence

    1. Begin the tightening sequence with the four bolts at the counter bored locations on the spacer. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 700 ± 50 N·m (516 ± 37 lb ft) in the sequence indicated. Tighten the four counter bored bolts again to a torque of 700 ± 50 N·m (516 ± 37 lb ft).
