There have been a number of isolated instances of issues with coolant loss from the radiator on some products.

The issues have been found from the following causes.

• There has been corrosion of the radiator cores. This is due to an incorrect drain of the coolant. The coolant remains in the radiator cores. This causes leaks to develop over time.

• There has been corrosion of the radiator cores. This is due to incorrect installation of the coolant. This results in air locks in the coolant system. If air becomes trapped in the radiator cores, corrosion can occur over time.

• Damage to the radiator cores and the radiator structure leads to leaks from the cores and the structure.

• There have been isolated instances of incorrect installation of the seals for the top tank and the bottom tank of the radiator.

Refer to Special Instruction, REHS3828, "Storage Procedure for Caterpillar Products" for the recommended storage and maintenance procedures for the cooling system. Refer to the Special Instruction, REHS3828, "Storage Procedure for Caterpillar Products" for the recommended coolant that should be used.

Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct procedures in order to drain and fill the coolant.

To avoid damage to the radiator cores, ensure that the supplied guards are left attached to the engine. This applies for the storage of the engine, if the engine is being transported and installation of the engine until the engine is ready to be operated.

A controlled process of crimping has been introduced at the manufacture of the radiator, that has checks and visual inspections in order to ensure that the seals and crimps of the top and bottom tank are assembled to the required specification. The procedure in the manufacturing process has been improved.
