Inventory and Warranty
Special conditions are in place in order to enable Caterpillar dealers to keep an inventory of Olympian and Caterpillar Generator Sets. Two conditions can activate the warranty period. The activation begins with the condition that occurs first.
- The warranty period for Olympian Generator Sets is three years from the date of the purchase or from the date of initial start-up.
- The warranty period for Caterpillar Generator Sets is five years from the date of the purchase or from the date of initial start-up.
To maintain a valid warranty, the following conditions must be met:
- Prior to delivery, the generator set must be stored in a controlled environment.
- The storage environment must not have extreme variations in temperature.
- The storage environment must not have extreme variations in humidity.
- The storage must follow proper practices in order to maintain the service life of the product.
Verification of Storage Procedures
Although verification of storage is not required in order to maintain the warranty, this does not eliminate the need for proper storage procedures.
In the case of a claim for warranty, Caterpillar may require documentation which proves that the recommended storage procedures were followed. Generator sets that are stored need to be inspected on a regular basis. The engine crankshaft must be rotated within a minimum of every six months.
