Inspection of Slag Buckets{6110} Caterpillar

Inspection of Slag Buckets{6110}

Usage:

980C 13B
Wheel Loader: All

Introduction

This document provides estimated maintenance recommendations of parent and wear plates for the slag application. The information in this document is for slag application in which typical slag is less than 595° C (1100° F), and a backdrag technique is used. The overall service life of the bucket can be decreased if the bucket is used in applications where temperatures exceed 595° C (1100° F), Improper backdrag technique is used, or bucket wear plates are improperly maintained.

It is recommended that all other areas on the bucket not shown in this document be inspected weekly. This is to ensure that no weld cracks or parent material cracks are present that could lead to further bucket failure. The inspection is also to ensure no excessive wear on bottom, rear wear plates, base edge, or weld-on serrated edge segments is present. If bucket is used in slag conditions hotter than specified, more frequent inspections and maintenance will be required.
