Removal Procedure

Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.

1. Turn the fuel supply to the OFF position and turn the power disconnect switch to the OFF.

2. Loosen the bolt and disconnect harness assembly (1). Remove the two bolts and remove bracket (2).

3. Remove bolt (3).

   Note: Cap all tube assemblies and fittings that are disconnected to prevent fluid loss. This action will also keep contaminants out of the systems.

4. Disconnect tube assemblies (4), (5), (6), and (7).

5. Disconnect tube assemblies (8), (9), and (10). Plug tube assemblies (10) with Tooling (E)

6. Carefully remove the tube assemblies as one unit from the right side of the machine.

7. Disconnect cable assemblies (11) and (12).

8. Remove allen head bolt (14) and the clamp. Disconnect cable assembly (15).

9. Use Tooling (A) to disconnect the flame detection sensor (13).

10. Remove three bolts (17) and disconnect elbow assembly (16).

11. Remove nuts (22) and combustion head (21).

12. Remove gasket (20), tube assembly (19), and gasket (18).

    Note: The gaskets are one time use. Replace the gaskets upon installation.

13. If required, remove studs (23).

14. Remove fittings (24) and (25).

15. Remove spark plug (26) and remove fitting (27).

16. Use Tooling (C) to remove O-ring seals (28) and (29) from cable assembly (15). Discard the O-ring seals.

Installation Procedure

1. Install combustion head (21) in reverse order of removal.

   1. Apply Tooling (B) onto the threads of studs (23). Install the studs. Tighten studs (23) to a torque of 17 ± 2 N·m (150 ± 18 lb in).

   2. Apply Tooling (B) onto the threads of the studs and nuts (22). Tighten nuts (22) in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 23 ± 3 N·m (204 ± 27 lb in). Tighten nuts (22) again in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 28 ± 3 N·m (21 ± 2 lb ft). Tighten nuts (22) again in a crisscross pattern to a torque of 28 ± 3 N·m (21 ± 2 lb ft).

      Use caution when you are using isopropyl alcohol. Avoid prolonged skin contact with isopropyl alcohol. Vapors may be harmful if inhaled. Use only in a well ventilated area. Do not smoke while using isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Do not use near an open flame or near welding operations. Keep isopropyl alcohol away from heated surfaces exceeding 482°C (900°F).

      Note: This connection is an electrical connection and cannot be lubricated with a petroleum-based lubricant. Isopropyl alcohol is the only approved lubrication for this connection.

   3. Lubricate new O-ring seals (28) and (29) with Tooling (D) prior to installation.

   4. Tighten fittings (27) to a torque of 60 ± 6 N·m (44 ± 4 lb ft).

   5. Tighten spark plug (26) to a torque of 57.5 ± 4 N·m (42 ± 3 lb ft).

   6. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of flame detection temperature sensor (1) and install the sensor. Use Tooling (A) to tighten flame detection temperature sensor (1) to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 3 lb ft).

   7. Check the coolant level. If necessary, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Coolant - Change" for the proper filling procedures.

2. Perform the ARD ignition test. Refer to Troubleshooting Manual, "ARD Ignition - Test".
