Rocker Shaft and Pushrod - Install

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Check that all components are free from damage.

  1. Install pushrods (5) .

    Note: Ensure that the pushrods are installed in the original location and that the pushrods are seated in the valve lifters correctly.

  1. Install a new oil seal in the oil supply hole in the cylinder head.

  1. Put rocker shaft assembly (4) in position on the cylinder head. Make sure that the connection for the oil supply is installed correctly into the oil seal.

    Note: Ensure that the adjustment screws are properly seated in the ends of pushrods (5) .

  1. Lubricate three nuts (2) and bolt (3) with clean engine oil.

  1. Install three nuts (2) and bolt (3) that holds rocker shaft assembly (4) in position on the cylinder head.

  1. Alternately tighten three nuts (2) and bolt (3). Start from the center and work toward the outside.

    Tighten three nuts (2) and bolt (3) to the following torque:

    Aluminum rocker shaft brackets ... 40 N·m (30 lb ft)
    Cast iron or steel rocker shaft brackets ... 75 N·m (55 lb ft)

  1. Adjust the inlet valve lash to 0.20 mm (0.008 inch) and adjust the exhaust valve lash to 0.45 mm (0.018 inch). Refer to the Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting Module, "Engine Valve Lash - Inspect/Adjust" topic for more information on adjusting the valve lash.

End By: Install the valve mechanism cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Valve Mechanism Cover - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
