Installation of the New Alternator Support Assembly on Industrial Engines{1154, 1405}

Introduction

The 332-4697 Support As is more robust than previous support assemblies for the alternator. This Special Instruction explains the procedures that are used in order to remove the old support assemblies and the procedure that is used in order to mount the new support assembly.

Do not perform any procedure in this Special Instruction until you read this information and you understand this information.

Personal injury can result from failure to disconnect the battery.

First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then, disconnect the positive battery cable.

A positive power lead can cause sparks if the battery is not disconnected. Sparks can possibly result in battery explosion or fire.

Removal Procedure

Removal of the 8N-6677 Bracket and the 279-6018 Bracket

  1. Disconnect the main power supply. Disconnect the electrical harness from the alternator. For Steps 2 through 6, refer to Illustration 1.

  1. Loosen bolts (3) .

  1. Loosen bolts (1) .

  1. Remove the tension from the alternator V-belt. Remove the alternator V-belt.

  1. Remove bolts (1) .

  1. Remove bolt (2) .

  1. Remove bolt (4) and the washer.

  1. Remove bolt (6) and spacer (5). Refer to Illustration 2.

Removal of the 270-8445 Bracket As

(7) 5R-1771 Bolt

  1. Remove the V-belt on the pulleys.

  1. Remove 5R-1771 Bolt (7) and bolt (2). Refer to Illustration 3.

    (9) 5M-2894 Hard Washer

    (10) 9S-8752 Full Nut

  1. Remove 9S-8752 Full Nut (10), 9X-6458 Hard Washer (8), and 5M-2894 Hard Washer (9). Save the hard washer (9) and the nut (10). Refer to Illustration 4.

Removal of the 219-7852 Bracket As

  1. Remove the V-belt on the pulleys.

    (11) 9Y-1603 Spacer

  1. Remove bolt (6) and bolt (2). Remove the 219-7852 Bracket As and the 9Y-1603 Spacer (11). Refer to Illustration 5.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install 0S-1591 Bolt (4). Refer to Illustration 6.

    Note: Perform Step 1 only if 8N-6677 Bracket or 279-6018 Bracket was removed previously.

  1. Install 332-4697 Support As with 6L-7283 Bolt (12), two 5M-2894 Hard Washers (9) and 9S-8752 Full Nut (10). Tighten bolt (12) to 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 7.

  1. Position the alternator in the 332-4697 Support As .

  1. Install 7X-0339 Bolt (13), 5P-8245 Hard Washer (14), and 1F-7958 Full Nut (15). Tighten bolt (13) to 105 ± 20 N·m (77 ± 15 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 8.

  1. Install 1A-5183 Bolt (16) and two 5M-2894 Hard Washers (9) into location "A" or "B". Tighten bolt (16) to 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 8.

    Note: Depending on the application, either location "A" or location "B" can be used.

  1. Install the belt tension adjustment rod.

  1. Install the alternator belts.

  1. Tighten the belts to the correct tension.

  1. Connect the electrical harness onto the alternator.

  1. Connect main power supply.
