ReferenceRefer to Service Magazine, SEPD0954, 18 August 2008, "Troubleshooting the Rotary Switch Assembly for the Engine Speed" if a difference exists between the selected engine speed and the actual engine speed.
Description of Change: A new rotary switch assembly has a new receptacle connector on the wiring harness. The new receptacle connector provides a more secure connection with the connector plug on the wiring harness for the console.
New software eliminates the diagnostic code FMI 12 from the display on the monitor. The diagnostic code FMI 05 will be displayed in order to more accurately troubleshoot the rotary switch. The new software with the new switch assembly will increase the reliability of the rotary switch for the engine speed dial.
Note: The new software is only applicable to the 345C, 365C, 385C and D-Series models.
Adaptable To: The new 319-4420 Rotary Switch Gp replaces the former 106-0107 Rotary Switch Gp. The new rotary switch includes a new 243-4508 Connector Receptacle As. The former rotary switch used a 3E-3382 Connector Receptacle As. The new receptacle connector is an AMP connector. The former receptacle connector was a DT connector.
If a faulty connection is found after troubleshooting the former switch, replace the former rotary switch with a new rotary switch. If the new 319-4420 Rotary Switch Gp is installed, new software must also be installed. The new software and the former software are listed in Table 1. The new software is available in the form of a flash file through Caterpillar Service Information System (SIS).
The 155-2273 Connector Plug As on the wiring harness in the console must also be replaced by a new 230-5010 Connector Plug As. The 155-2273 Connector Plug As on the wiring harness in the console is a DT connector. The new 230-5010 Connector Plug As is an AMP connector. The new AMP connector plug is needed in order to connect with the new AMP receptacle connector.
