Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.
Problem
The regulations of emissions in China state that off-highway engines with a power rating of less than 560 kW that have been sold in China after 30September 2008 must be certified. Also, these engines must be labelled. The same regulations apply for machines with the above engines. Engines without the proper certification and the proper labeling face the risk of being held at customs. Certification labels are required for engines in China that meet the standards of certification if those engines have not been sold to an end user by 1October 2008.
Solution
Follow the procedure below in order to complete the update for the label.
- Verify that the engine needs the Certification Label for China by using the Technical Marketing Information (TMI).
- Go to http://tmiweb.cat.com in order to determine if your engine requires the label.
- Select "Engine Parts Data" from the left hand menu.
- Select "Serial Number" from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
- Type the serial number into the window that is labelled "Reference Number".
- Click "Retrieve Data".
- Click on the "Emissions Data" link that is located on the top menu.
- Under the "As Shipped Data" link, look for the "Certification" line.
Note: If China is not part of the description, a label must be requested.
Note: If China is listed, the engine has the correct label.
- Select the "Need Emission Replacement Label? Click here!" link at the bottom of the form.
- Select the "China Non-Road Label Request" link.
- A new page will open. Please complete all of the information.
- The labels should arrive in about two weeks.
Replacing the Label
Emission Certification labels are opaque white in color. The labels have dimensions of 52 mm (2 inch) by 235 mm (9 inch) or 76 mm (3 inch) by 111 mm (4 inch). A slightly larger clear laminate should also be included.
Do not install the new label over the old label. Layered labels can cause failures in adhesion and durability.
Remove the old label completely from the engine and discard the pieces. Clean the surface with alcohol or other solvent in order to remove all dirt and adhesive from the surface of the engine. Allow the surface to dry before you install the replacement label.
Carefully remove the new label from the backing and apply the label to the engine. Avoid trapping air bubbles under the label. Apply even pressure to the entire surface of the label in order to ensure adhesion. Pay attention to the corners and edges. Once the label is applied, remove the laminate from the backing and apply the laminate over the label so that entire surface is protected. Apply even pressure to the entire surface of the laminate in order to ensure adhesion. Pay attention to the corners and edges. .
