Diagnostic trouble codes will be displayed on the Status Control Module (SCM). Troubleshoot any active codes that are present before troubleshooting a system problem. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Diagnostic Trouble Code Procedures".
System problems may generate a diagnostic fault on the SCM. Not all system problems will generate a diagnostic fault. Refer to Troubleshooting, "System Procedures".
During a troubleshooting procedure, inspect all component and harness connections before a component is replaced. If these connections are not clean and tight, the connection can cause an electrical problem. Refer to the appropriate system or the schematics of the engine harness for additional information.
A problem can be intermittent. Ensure that the wires are pushed into the connectors completely. Make sure that the connections are tight before other tests are performed. A failure of a connection of one electrical component can cause the failure of another electrical component. Always attempt to find a failure of a connection. Correct the failed connection before replacing a component.
Continuity checks and resistance checks should be performed at the connector locations in order to locate a failure in the harness. At a component connector, always check the ground circuit.
