AccuGrade ® Version 10.8

The AccuGrade ® version 10.80 firmware has been released. The AccuGrade version 10.80 software will be shipped with all new electronic kits for AccuGrade on the CD700 display. This version of the AccuGrade software adds support for following:

  • Wirth files

  • Control tuning parameters for some Track-Type Tractors

  • Band switching for CR series radios

  • Corrects a file limit issue

  • Returns the functionality for dual laser with fixed and manual masts on Track-Type Tractors and Motor Graders

  • Use of GPS for lift valve calibration on Track-Type Tractor has been removed

The display firmware includes new "v1.39" firmware for MS980 receivers and "v3.61" firmware for MS990 receivers. MS990 receivers must be updated with "v3.61" in order to correct problems with satellite SV32.

Features

The following functionality has been added to the firmware:

Support for Wirth Files

Allows the use of Wirth road and TIN design format from AccuGrade Office. Wirth provides the following display features:

  • Additional layered lift modes

  • Dynamic "daylight points" horizontal guidance

  • Additional text items

For more information on Wirth, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU8290, "AccuGrade ® Grade Control System - CD700", "Guidance to Dynamic Layered Lift Alignments".

Note: Native Wirth files are not supported by the CD700 display.

Tuning Parameters for Select Track-Type Tractors

These tuning parameters can improve performance on the following Track-Type Tractors:

  • D3K

  • D4K

  • D5K

  • D6K

  • D5G

The tuned parameters are selected by using the "Machine Settings" dialog. After the machine type "Dozer" is selected, the machine model is selected. If a model is displayed, a tuned parameter is available. Otherwise, "Default" should be selected. Refer to Illustration 1.

Band Switching for Dual Band CR Series Radios

Radios such as the CR924 can have the band changed between 900MHz and 2400MHz by using the "Select Radio Frequency" dialog under the "Setup Menu - Configuration" menu. Refer to Illustration 2.

Note: The design and offset information is unloaded when the band is changed.

Illustration 2g01513983

Dozer Lift Valve Calibration

The option to use GPS in order to perform a valve calibration has been removed. A manual measurement, which is more accurate, is now required. Refer to Illustration 3.

Illustration 3g01450030

File Number Limit

When the "Production Reporting" option is turned on, ".tag" files are saved at the rate of 1 file for every 5 minutes of work. These files are now saved in a new directory for each day. This prevents reaching the file limit of 999.

Functionality for Dual Laser with Fixed and Manual Masts

AccuGrade v10.8 now supports dual laser receivers when using fixed or manual masts. This option is found in the "Machine Settings" dialog. Refer to Illustration 4.

MS980 Firmware Upgrade

The firmware for the display includes new "v1.39" firmware for MS980 receivers. The communication protocol has been changed to support future components.

MS990 Firmware Upgrade

The display firmware folder includes new "v3.61" firmware for MS990 receivers. MS990 receivers must be updated with "v3.61" to correct problems with GPS satellite SV32.

In order to update the firmware for the receiver, perform the following procedure:

  1. After the display has been upgraded to v10.80, enter the service mode.

  1. Press and hold down the "OK" key while powering on the display in order to enter service mode.

  1. Enter the "Upgrade Firmware" dialog that is located under the "Setup Menu - Installation" menu.

  1. Select the desired firmware to upgrade and press the "OK" key.

  1. Save the "MS990361.S" file to the compact flash card.

  1. Insert the card into the display.

  1. In order to load the firmware, use the "Upgrade Firmware" dialog, that is located under the "Setup Menu - Installation" menu.

An new ".cfg" file with SV32 enabled will then need to be sent to the GPS receivers by using the "GPS Receiver Configuration" dialog under the "Setup Menu - Configuration" menu. This firmware also enables GLONASS SV21 in the default file, improves GLONASS signal tracking and improves GLONASS CMR messages.

Minimum Version Levels

Table 1 lists the minimum version levels of firmware that are required for the AccuGrade components. If the AccuGrade Version 10.80 firmware is used with system components that have older versions of firmware, the "Diagnostics" screen will be displayed. The "Diagnostics" screen will show the correct version of firmware that is required.

ReferenceRefer to the applicable Systems Operation, Troubleshooting, Testing and Adjusting, "Display Firmware Upgrade" for detailed information of upgrading the system firmware.

Note: If the radio firmware is not the required version level, the radio will be listed as "Not Found" and the "Diagnostics" screen will continue to prompt the operator that a problem exists.

The minimum versions of firmware, excluding the radio, LR400, and EM400 are stored on the display under the "upgrade firmware" dialog.

The latest firmware is available on the download page of SIS web. The "Download Section" is accessed by clicking on the "Downloads" link (1) on the SISWeb home page. Refer to Illustration 5.

This download is a self-extracting zip file that contains all the current production firmware for AccuGrade 3D version 10.8 on Motor Graders, Track-Type Tractors, Excavators, and Compactors.

Once the firmware is extracted, the firmware is broken into three main folders with sub-folders in order to help clarify the use of the different file types. The firmware may be in two different file types if the component can be updated through the display (*.s) as well as through Caterpillar Electronic Technician (*.fls).

There is an operating system upgrade and a new ".sg2" file when upgrading to v10.80. There is also a power supply code upgrade when you move from V10.01 to V10.80. The pre-update .mch and .dsp files are automatically restored to the display, however save the files to the compact flash card before upgrading. The files (.bin, .sg2) in Table 2 need to be on the root folder of the card. Turn off the power to the machine. Install the card in the display and then repower the machine. Press the power button on the display and you will be prompted to update. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Table 2
File Type     Usage
.bin     Operating System files named:
eboot
fpga_cmb

.sg2     Update display firmware
.s     Update sensor components through the display
.fls     Update sensor components through Caterpillar ET

Folder Structure of the Self-extracting Zip File

Display - Contains the display firmware (*.SG2)

Radio - Contains the radio folders that have instructions and firmware in order to update the radio. A radio service cable and MCG Flash are required in order to flash the radio. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS2528 for more information on using MCG Flash.

Sensors - Contains two subfolders, which are Cat ET flashable and display Flashable. The AccuGrade components for the Excavator system must be upgraded via the display. Some of the AccuGrade components can be flashed with Cat ET and will use a *.fls file type. The display can be used in order to upgrade most AccuGrade components by entering the "Upgrade firmware" menu on the display.

Valve Module - Contains the firmware for valve modules
