Loose Caps on Oil Filler Tubes for C7, C9, and C13 On-highway Engines{1316}

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

The above listed truck engines that are equipped with 310-1191 Oil Filler Tube , 311-2840 Oil Filler Tube , and 316-1964 Oil Filler Tube may have retaining pins on the oil filler tube that do not protrude far enough in order to fully engage the cap of the oil filler tube. The result may be failure to retain the cap on the oil filler tube.

(1) Retaining pin

(A) The distance between the tip of the pin and the opposite side of the bore 35.33 mm to 35.76 mm (1.391 inch to 1.408 inch)

If the cap of the oil filler tube fails to be retained, measure dimension (A). If the distance of dimension (A) is not within the specifications that are listed above, replace the oil filler tube.
