Schematic of the lift/lower kickout switch |
This switch is a momentary contact double-pole switch connected to two switch-to-ground inputs of the ECM. The inputs to the ECM are normally open. This diagnostic code is recorded when the status of both the inputs to the ECM are grounded at the same time.
The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
- The input of the Lift/Lower Kickout switch is shorted to ground.
- The circuits are shorted to ground in the harness.
- The circuits are shorted together. The switch must be in one specific position.
- The switch has failed.
System Response:
The machine response is listed below:
- The operator switch will not change the position of the lift/lower kickout switch.
Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original diagnostic code is corrected.
Note: Ensure that the diagnostic code indicator is active and that the diagnostic code is active.
Test Step 1. CHECK THE SWITCH.
- Observe ON/OFF status of the diagnostic code indicator.
- Disconnect the connector of the switch from the harness.
Expected Result:
The diagnostic code indicator remains active.
Results:
- YES - The diagnostic code indicator remains active. The switch is not the cause of the diagnostic code. Proceed to test step 2.
- NO - The diagnostic code indicator is inactive. The switch has failed or the harness has failed.
Repair: Repeat this test in order to verify the failure of the switch. Repair the switch or replace the switch. Repair the harness or replace the harness.

Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS CIRCUIT.
- This test checks the continuity of the entire harness circuit that has failed. This test includes the switch that was previously checked.
- Turn the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
- Reconnect the switch that was disconnected in the previous step.
- Disconnect the harness from the ECM.
- Activate the switch. At the harness connector for the ECM, check the continuity between contact J1-43 H708-OR(Orange) and contact J1-40 761-GY(Grey).
Expected Result:
The continuity check shows that the switch is in the closed position. The resistance is less than 5 ohms.
Results:
- YES - The continuity check shows that the switch is in the closed position. The resistance is less than 5 ohms. The harness circuit is correct.
Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Exit this procedure and perform this troubleshooting procedure again. If the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the ECM. See Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
STOP
- NO - The continuity check shows that the resistance of the harness and switch is more than 5000 ohms.
Repair: The harness circuit has failed. There is a short to ground in the harness between the ECM and the switch. Repair the harness or replace the harness.
