Glow plugs (5) aid engine starting in cold conditions.
With the key start switch in the ON position, 24 volt power is supplied from the batteries via circuit breaker 6 to Engine ECM (1) and via circuit breaker 13 to the indicator lamp panel (6) .
Coolant temperature sensor (2) and intake temperature sensor (3) are inputs to Engine ECM (1) and are used to determine the cold start strategy.
Engine ECM (1) controls the activation of glow plugs (5) prior to the starting of the engine.
When glow plug indicator (7) is illuminated, glow plugs (5) are activated.
When the key start switch is turned to the ON position and glow plug indicator (7) is illuminated, Engine ECM (1) sends a signal to glow plug relay magnetic switch (8). The contacts in glow plug relay magnetic switch (8) will close and 24 volt power will be supplied from main circuit breaker (4) to glow plugs (5) .
When glow plug indicator (7) is off the engine can be started.
