An Improvement has been Made to the Bulk Material for Hose Assemblies {5057}

Usage:

Mini Hydraulic Excavator: 301.6C (S/N: JBB1-UP) 301.8C (S/N: JSB1-UP) 302.5C (S/N: GBB1-UP)

Description of Change: The bulk hose material that is used to build the -4, -6 and -8 hose assemblies for the above models has been changed. Previously, the bulk hose material was manufactured to the Caterpillar 1E294 specification. The new bulk hose material is built to the Caterpillar 1E4198 specification. The new material has the following advantages over the previous material.

Increased temperature capability

Increased pressure capability

A tighter bend radii is possible and it improves the routing capability.

The hose diameter is slightly smaller and the outer layer is thinner which improves the bite of the end fittings on the wire braiding

This change was introduced in two phases. In phase 1, all of the -4, -6 and -8 1E294 hose assemblies used in the lines groups that are listed in Table 1 were converted to the new material. This occurred in February 2007. Serial numbers were not recorded.

All of the remaining -4, -6 and -8 1E294 hose assemblies were converted to the new material in May 2007. The complete change was effective with JBB1636, JSB2998 and GBB2710.

Adaptable To: The new material is adaptable to machine serial numbers JBB1-1635, JSB1-2997 and GBB1-2709. All service replacement hose assemblies that formerly used the 1E294 hose material must be built from the new 1E4198 material.

Note: Only the hose material has changed. The end fittings are the same.The new material is identifiable from the magenta Mylar lay line, which includes pressure rating, Caterpillar specification, inch/metric size and MSHA code. The new material is referred to as "Caterpillar 294 Compact" because the material is for use in all of the same applications as the former 1E294 material but with the advantage that it can be routed in a more compact way. Despite the name, the new material is not 1E294.

Part numbers of the new bulk hose are listed in Table 2. The new bulk hose is not available in other sizes.
