  • A dye that glows bright green under ultraviolet light is now added to the factory engine oil. The dye is used in order to detect leaks during testing at the factory. The dye will show the specific leak path of the oil when a black light is used. This aids in the detection of oil leaks during testing at the factory.

The dye is not visible in the oil under normal light. The dye may be visible if a flashlight is used in order to look at the oil. If a flashlight is used in order to look at the oil, the engine oil will appear green in color. The green color of the oil is similar in appearance to green automotive engine coolant.

The green color in the oil should disappear after the first oil change. The dye will not harm any internal components of the engine. If coolant is suspected in the oil, sample the oil. Test the oil sample for water.
