Failure to follow the following torque sequence may lead to premature wear of the No. 1 camshaft bearing.

Sequence for tightening the camshaft gear

Use the following procedure to tighten the camshaft bolts.

1. Lightly lubricate the O-ring seal on the outside of the sealing plate of the camshaft with a 50/50 mixture of 8T-2998 Lubricant and engine oil that is clean.

2. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to the three bolts for the sealing plate of the camshaft.

3. Tighten the three sealing plate bolts on the camshaft to the following torque.

   Torque ... 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft)

4. Tighten the camshaft bolts in the following sequence.

   Refer to Illustration 1 for the numbering of the bolts. ... 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6, 1, 4

   Torque ... 240 ± 40 N·m (177 ± 30 lb ft)
