Updating the 0R-7942 Alternators Used on some C-12 Caterpillar Engines{1405}

Usage:

C-12 BDL
Engine:
C-12 (S/N: BDL1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

A lead wire needs to be removed off the 0R-7942 alternator . The lead wire is not needed. Future production of the alternator will not have the unnecessary parts.

Solution

Follow the instructions below in order to remove the lead wire.

    (1) Mounting bolts for the regulator

    (2) Regulator

  1. Remove the mounting bolts (1) for the regulator.

  1. Remove the regulator (2) off the alternator in order to access the internal components.

  1. Remove the 3/8 inch nut on the internal connection (3) that is connected to the lead wire.

  1. Remove the lead wire (4) and discard the lead wire.

  1. Reinstall and tighten the 3/8 inch nut on the internal connection (3) .

  1. Replace the regulator (2) on the alternator. Install the mounting bolts (1) for the regulator.
