This module is part of Service Manual, RENR6650.Testing and Adjusting, RENR9125, "M313C, M315C, M316C, M318C and M322C Excavators and M318C and M322C Material Handlers Hydraulic System", "Position Switch (Service Brake Pedal) - Adjust". This module is part of Service Manual, RENR9110.Testing and Adjusting, RENR9595, "M325D Excavator Hydraulic System", "Position Switch (Service Brake Pedal) - Adjust". This module is part of Service Manual, RENR9590.

Position switches are located in several locations on the machine. Most machines that are equipped with a hydraulic cab riser have position switches at the following locations.

  • Service brake pedal

  • Access door behind the cab

  • Left armrest

Some machines also have an optional position switch that is located on the boom in order to prevent contact of the bridge. Proper adjustment of these switches is required for proper system operation.

The following information has been added to the Service Manuals that are referenced above. This procedure can be used in order to adjust any of the position switches on the machine.

Proper adjustment of the position switch is required in order for the service brakes and the oscillating axle lock to function properly.

  1. Stop the engine.

    (4) Bracket

    (5) Screws

  1. Remove two screws (5) which secure position switch (3) to bracket (4) .

  1. Clean magnet (2) and position switch (3) from any dirt or debris.

  1. Reinstall position switch (3) and two screws (5) onto bracket (4) .

    (X) Gap dimension

  1. Fully engage service brake pedal (1) and place the service brake pedal into the LOCKED position. Ensure that there is no contact between the position switch and the magnet.

Note: Be careful when you depress the service brake pedal. The service brake pedal is easily depressed since there is no pressure. If the magnet came in contact with the position switch, the position switch could be damaged.

  1. Check gap dimension (X) between position switch (3) and magnet (2). Gap dimension (X) must be 1 mm to 3 mm (0.040 to 0.118 inch). If the gap dimension is not within specifications, proceed to Step 7.

  1. Bend bracket (4) in order to attain the required gap dimension (X) .

  1. Clear all codes on the operator monitor.
