Personal injury or death can result from high voltage. When power generation equipment must be in operation to make tests and/or adjustments, high voltage and current are present. Improper test equipment can fail and present a high voltage shock hazard to its user. Use electrical safety gloves when you are working in the cabinets. Make sure the testing equipment is designed for and correctly operated for high voltage and current tests being made. |
Note: The UPS/SMS or MMU should be in bypass. The Flywheel Cabinet should be in shutdown.
- Turn the keyswitch on the Flywheel Cabinet to the "Spindown/Offline" position.
- Open the Flywheel Cabinet.

- Place system in Bypass mode.
Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Transfer to Bypass Mode".
- Make sure that green status light in the Flywheel Cabinet is ON.
Refer to Illustration 1.
Note: When the green status light in the Flywheel Cabinet is ON, the DC Disconnect Switch can be operated.
- Connect a PC to the UPS.
Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, RENR7654, "Personal Computer to UPS Connection".
- Open the DC Disconnect Switch in the Flywheel Cabinet.
Note: Opening the DC Disconnect Switch isolates the Flywheel Cabinet from the UPS/SMS or MMU DC bus.
- Make sure that A and B values for both tachometer and percentage usable energy equal 0 by viewing the appropriate UPSView telemetry tiles.

- Attach multimeter probes.
Refer to Illustration 3 for the type of probes to use.
Refer to the following list for the placement of the probes:
- Positive goes to the Positive side of the Flywheel Cabinet DC bus.
- Negative goes to the Neutral bus.

- Make sure that the DC bus voltage is registering less than 1 V on the multimeter.
- Make sure that the DC Disconnect Switch is open.
Note: When the Flywheel Cabinet disconnect status LEDs are red, DO NOT open or close DC Disconnect Switch.
- Make sure the "Minimum" selection is highlighted.
