- Marine Engine
- ALL
This will include low power issues and replacement of the Electronic Control Module (ECM). Specific engine information will be required prior to any help with factory passwords for low power issues (FLS/FTS changes).
Follow the instructions below and record the measurements before contacting Caterpillar for support.
Record the Following Parameters
Use Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to verify and then record specific parameters. Record the parameters by using the "Steady State Data Logger" in Cat ET. The *.ssd format is required to supply the parameter information to Caterpillar.
- Desired engine speed
- Actual engine speed
- Fuel position
- FRC fuel limit position or "Smoke Limit Fuel Volume"
- Boost pressure
- Rated fuel limit or torque limit fuel volume
- Fuel pressure
- Fuel temperature
- Inlet manifold temperature
- Injection actuation pressure (HEUI engines)
- Desired injection actuation pressure (HEUI engines)
- Injection actuation current (HEUI engines)
- Engine load factor
- Fuel burn rate with fuel flow meter. (Using the fuel rate from the ECM is unacceptable.)
- Exhaust temperature to turbochargers
- Angle of engine installation
- Air temperature at the turbocharger inlet
- Fuel API rating
- Restriction of the inlet fuel
Verify the Fuel Flow Meter
Also, provide the following information concerning the Caterpillar fuel flow meter.
- Date of last calibration
- Part number of the actual fuel flow meter that is used
Engine | Required Part Number |
C7 up to C18 | 179-0710 Meter Gp |
Larger than C18 | 154-8102 Meter Gp |
Verify the Correct Calibration of the Dipstick
Verify that the dipstick has been correctly calibrated by draining the oil and refilling the oil to the correct oil level. Refer to your engine's Operation and Maintenance Manual for the correct oil level for your engine.
