When the engine is started, transmission oil pump (1) pulls oil from sump (17). Transmission oil pump (1) sends pump oil through transmission oil filter (2). Pressurized transmission oil flows from the transmission oil filter to the oil inlet in the transmission housing. The pressurized oil flows through an internal passage of the transmission housing. The oil then flows to the transmission control valve in order to supply transmission main relief valve (15) with oil. The transmission main relief valve maintains a constant pressure to the modulating valves.
The oil in the clutches that are not engaged is sent back to sump (17) and the oil becomes return oil.
The transmission relief valve (15) controls the pressure of the pump oil that is supplied to the modulating valves. The transmission relief valve (15) directs the unneeded pump oil to torque converter (3) as torque converter oil. Torque converter outlet oil flows through torque converter outlet (6) to oil cooler (7) as lubrication oil. After the oil cools, the oil flows through the lubrication system and to sump (17).
