Two different stud tensioner tool groups are available for tightening the nuts on the studs for the cylinder heads and for the main bearing caps for the above engines. The stud tensioner tool groups require different hydraulic pressures in order to achieve the correct tension.
NOTICE |
---|
If the incorrect pressure is applied during the tensioning procedure, engine damage will result. In order to achieve the correct tension without damaging the engine, use the correct pressure for the specific tool group and application. |
The following chart provides the proper hydraulic pressures for the stud tensioner tool groups in both applications.
Tool Group Pt. No.     | Pressure for Tensioning Studs for Main Bearing Caps     | Pressure for Tensioning Studs for Cylinder Heads     |
207-5034 Stud Tensioner Tool Gp     | 65 000 ± 2400 kPa (9,425 ± 348 psi)     | 4000 ± 1520 kPa (5,800 ± 220 psi)     |
191-5320 Stud Tensioner Tool Gp     | 108 000 ± 3950 kPa (15,670 ± 573 psi)     |
121 500 ± 4920 kPa (17,615 ± 713 psi)     |
The Service Manual modules that follow refer to a stud tensioner tool group. The references are in the installation procedures for the cylinder heads and for the main bearing caps. Please write the tool part numbers and the respective pressures for both applications in each manual. Also write a reference to this article in each procedure.
