Fast Fill Fuel Troubleshooting

Usage:

587R BXL

Symptoms

Before you complete any procedure, read Troubleshooting, "Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting" in this module.

  • "The Nozzle Shuts Off Prior To Full level"

  • "Vacuum In the Fuel Tank During Operation"

  • "Underfill"

  • "Underfill Or No Fill"

  • "Fuel Overfilling Or Fuel Coming Out Of the Vent"

  • "Nozzle Leaks At the Receiver"

The Nozzle Shuts Off Prior To Full level

  1. The nozzle is worn or improperly rebuilt.

    1. Rebuild the nozzle or replace the nozzle.

  1. The wrong receiver is installed.

    1. The force of the plunger spring in the receiver determines the pressure that shuts off the nozzle. Make sure that the receiver is the correct part number for the model.

  1. The flow rate is too high.

    1. The Shaw Aero system works in conjunction with most properly working fuel nozzles in order to produce 378.50 L/min (100 US gpm) of flow. The restriction of the Shaw Aero system or the nozzle will cause the nozzle to disengage at excessive flow rates.

  1. The screen for the vent is blocked.

    1. Clear the screen for the vent of any blockage. If a hose is installed in order to route fumes from the fuel away from the cab, make sure that the hose is not collapsed.

Vacuum In the Fuel Tank During Operation

  1. Wrong fuel cap or plugged vent filter on the fuel cap

    1. Shaw Aero fast fuel systems only use vented fuel caps. Make sure that the cap is vented.

Underfill

  1. The vehicle is not filled on a surface that is level and the vent is in a downward direction..

    1. Fill the vehicle on a surface that is level with the vehicle at less than a four degree angle.

  1. The receiver is improperly installed with a higher spring force.

    1. Obtain a receiver with the proper spring force.

  1. Debris is on the screen for the inlet valve or the signal line is clogged.

    1. Clean the screen for the inlet valve. Disassemble the signal line, and clean the signal line with 0.207 MPa (30 psi) maximum compressed air.

Refer to the appropriate module for your machine for the correct torque specifications:

      • Refer to Specifications, RENR8247 for 587R.

Underfill Or No Fill

  1. Kink in the signal line.

    1. Check that the signal line is not kinked or bent from installation.

Fuel Overfilling Or Fuel Coming Out Of the Vent

  1. The connector for the signal line is detached or the connector is leaking.

    1. Check the connection for the signal line at the shutoff valve and the inlet valve. Make sure that the signal line, the shutoff valve, and the housings for the float are not damaged.

Refer to the appropriate module for your machine for the correct torque specifications:

      • Refer to Specifications, RENR8247 for 587R.

  1. The vehicle is not filled on a surface that is level and the vent is in an upward direction.

    1. Fill the vehicle on a surface that is level with the vehicle at less than a four degree angle.

  1. The float is stuck or disengaged.

    1. Check that the float is fastened to the rod that holds the float with two retainer clips.

Nozzle Leaks At the Receiver

  1. The nozzle or the receiver are worn.

    1. The nozzle and the receiver are items that wear. The receiver and the nozzle may require replacement.
