Loose Accumulators on Variable Valve Actuators for C11, C13, and C15 Engines{1130} Caterpillar

Loose Accumulators on Variable Valve Actuators for C11, C13, and C15 Engines{1130}

Usage:

C15 BXS
Engines:
C11 (S/N: KCA1-UP)
C13 (S/N: KCB1-UP)
C15 (S/N: BXS1-UP; MXS1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Accumulator assemblies have loosened and/or accumulator assemblies have separated from the variable valve actuators on the above listed engines. Refer to the following illustrations for the location of the accumulator assemblies on the different variable valve actuators.

(1) Accumulator assembly

Solution

If the accumulator assembly is detached from the variable valve actuator, then inspect the threads on the variable valve actuator in order to ensure that the housing is not damaged. If there is no damage to the threads of the housing, replace the accumulator assembly with a new 229-0882 Accumulator As . If the threads on the housing are damaged, replace the entire housing.

If the assembly is loose but still in place, torque the accumulator assembly to 45 ± 8 N·m (33 ± 6 lb ft) and place the engine into service.
