  1. Open the cabinet door in order to gain access to the internal latch assembly.

  2. Remove the small hex nut (11) at the end of the latch assembly.

  3. Remove the small lock washer (10).

  4. Remove the pawl (9).

  5. Remove the next small lock washer (8).

  6. Remove the second small hex nut (7).

  7. Remove the large hex nut (6).

  8. Remove the large lock washer (5).

  9. Remove the following components through the hole and out of the front of the door: knob, gasket and latch assembly.

Installation Procedure

  1. Refer to Illustration 2 for a diagram of the latch assembly and replacement part.

  2. Place the gasket (4) over the end of the door latch assembly. The gasket (4) is 28.6 mm (1.125 inch) in diameter. Seat the gasket (4) next to the knob.

  3. Place the threaded end of the assembly through the hole for the latch from the front of the door. The gasket (4) should fit against the outer skin of the door.

  4. Turn the knob counterclockwise. The knob should be horizontal and the small threaded area should fully extend. If the knob is not horizontal and the threaded area is not fully extended, perform the following actions:

    • Remove the knob.

    • Turn over the knob.

    • Reinsert the knob.

  5. Place the large lock washer (5) over the threaded end of the assembly. Move the lock washer (5) next to the inner skin of the door.

  6. Tighten the large hex nut (6) onto the large threaded area of the latch assembly. Tighten the nut (6) to 20.3 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Fasten the small hex nut (7) onto the small threads of the latch assembly. Do not tighten down the nut (7) all the way.

  8. Place one of the small lock washers (8) over the end of the assembly and against the small nut (7).

  9. Place the pawl (9) onto the assembly next to the small washer (8).

  10. Position the pawl (9) on the door.

  11. Place the second small lock washer (10) onto the assembly next to the latch.

  12. Fasten the second small hex nut (11) onto the assembly.

  13. Adjust the two small screws so that the pawl (9) and screws are aligned near the end of the latch assembly.

  14. Tighten the nuts (6), (7), and (11) loosely so that the pawl (9) is held firmly.

  15. Close and latch the door.

  16. Adjust the nuts and latch (1) so the door closes firmly.

  17. Tighten the nuts (8) and (10) for the pawl to 13.56 N·m (10 lb ft).

  18. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to all three nuts (6), (7), and (11).
