UPS 1000S/ UPS 1200S Uninterruptible Power Supplys Caterpillar

Internal Component Preremoval Steps (4 Wire Transformer Cabinet)

Usage:

ES12F CZE
Note: These steps are defined for electrical high risk maintenance of the cabinet components located behind the locked doors. Follow these steps before performing maintenance on internal components. Shutting down all inputs to the UPS for this operation is necessary. Typically shutting down all inputs to the UPS will necessitate de-energizing the customer load.

  1. Brake the flywheel.

Brake the flywheel if the unit is going to be shut down over 20 minutes. Simultaneously press the "Ctrl" key and the "X" key on a PC that is connected to the UPS through UPS View.

  1. Shut down the UPS.

The UPS needs shut down before any work is done to the cabinet. Refer to the information in the Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "UPS Shutdown".

    ------ WARNING! ------

When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:

    • Make sure the unit is either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE.

    • Remove all fuses.

    • Make sure the generator engine is stopped.

    • Make sure all batteries are disconnected.

    • Make sure all capacitors are discharged.

    • Make sure residual voltage in the rotor, stator and the generator is discharged.

Failure to do so could result in personal injury or death.

    ------ WARNING! ------

When servicing or repairing electric power generation equipment:

Make sure the unit is off-line (disconnected from utility and/or other generators power service), and either locked out or tagged DO NOT OPERATE. Remove all fuses.

    ----------------------

  1. De-energize the UPS.

All inputs to the UPS need de-energized. There are two possible inputs to the UPS, one in the Input/Output Cabinet (IOC) and one in the optional Maintenance Bypass Cabinet (MBP).

Open upstream breakers to these two cabinets.

Note: Opening the upstream breakers to the IOC and MBP will de-energize the customer load.

  1. Discharge the capacitors.

Allow the capacitor banks in the UPS to purge down for 10 minutes.

  1. Unlock and Open Doors.

Open the doors of the cabinet using a 127.00 mm (5/16 inch) hex key on the upper and lower latches.

  1. Remove metal safety shields.

There is a metal safety shield covering the components in the upper part of the cabinet. Remove the shield, if necessary.

  1. Swing out upper component panel.

Note: Unscrew and swing the top component panel in the Version 2 hardware, if needed.
